   in the uk, the best we found was tesco, but if youre outside the Uk i have no idea.. lol….

   When I adopted my cat, I spent many hours researching pet health insurance companies. I ended up with Pet Plans USA. It costs me $144 a year to have her insured for up to $12,000 of treatment for each illness or injury. I have a $200 deductible, so the most I’ll pay for any illness or injury is $200.

   I just recently had to get emergency care for her, and after the emergency treatment at the animal hospital, she had to be at the vet’s office for almost a week to get all kinds of tests done and lots of treatment there. The total expenses of all the treatment for her illness came to just a little more than $2,000. I had to use a credit card to pay for everything, but once I sent all of the invoices to Pet Plans, they reimbursed me for all of my costs, less the $200 deductible. And I was really impressed with how quickly I got the money from them — I only had to wait a few days!

   I’m so glad you’re thinking about getting pet health insurance. It can really be a financial lifesaver and when you consider that it only takes one illness or one injury to rack up a vet bill in the thousands, the insurance is well worth it. It’s bad enough to suffer the emotional trauma of having a sick pet, you shouldn’t have to suffer financial worries on top of that.

   I would suggest to read around on reviews, petinsurancereview.com is a great third-party site that has tons of reviews from actual customers. Read some positive and negative reviews on each of them so you can learn about the ups and downs of each company.

   When I adopted my dog, I looked into pet insurance too. After a bunch of research, I found Trupanion to be the best. They don’t have any claim limits or annual limits (just a lifetime limit of $20,000). They also don’t increase the premium as your pet ages like a lot of companies do (including pet plan).
   Plus you can choose your own deductible (anywhere from 0$ to 1000$) so whatever fits your budget. I chose 0 so all I ever have to pay is 10% of the vet bill.
