Do you have to have health insurance when entering the Peace Corps?

Youhou j asked:

Do you have to have health insurance BEFORE entering and if you take their insurance for the Peace Corps, when does coverage begin?
So when am I covered? Will I be covered as soon as I am accepted or as soon as I step foot onto foreign soil?

Peace Corps requires a physical exam and medical clearances before they accept you in the Peace Corps. As a volunteer, all medical treatments and checkups are provided by Peace Corps so no health insurance is required.. threre is a cobra that kicks in when you leave Peace Corps that covers during any extended travel time when returning to the states and to cover the gap until you get a job.
