A recent survey by Harris Interactive for America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) found that most Baby Boomers underestimate their risk of missing work for an extended period of time due to a disability. Yet they believe that they are more likely to suffer such a disability than to die prematurely. What’s wrong with this picture? Like most breadwinners, Boomers buy family health insurance and life insurance to protect their families while skimping on long-term disability insurance.

How far off are the disability risk guesstimates of most Americans? A study sponsored by the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education called “The Real Risk of Disability in the United States” found that a white-collar worker between 35 and 65 years of age has a 27 to 31 percent chance of becoming disabled for 90 days or longer. Unfortunately, the duration of disabilities has increased substantially in the past few decades. In the 1970s and 80s, a 35-year-old male with such a disability would have been out of work, on average, almost four years. Today it’s six, because better medical care means that people with terminal illnesses are living longer. It does not, however, mean they are able to pull in their pre-disability income while they’re ill.

Steven Crawford, a Maryland-based disability insurance specialist, believes that a well considered policy is the keystone to any sound financial plan. Unfortunately, he notes, most financial advisers, not to mention the media at large, rarely mention the subject, even though a person’s ability to generate income is by far their most valuable asset.

“Everybody should have the maximum [benefits] they can afford,” Crawford says. “Somebody 20 years oldtheir liability is huge. A 55-year-old’s liability is less.”

Figuring out how to find quality, low cost health insurance suited to your specific needs is a time-consuming process. First, you have to determine how much you’ll need to maintain your lifestyle, remembering to factor in new expenses that could arise due to your disability. Then, you calculate what income you’ll receive from sources beyond a private health insurance plan. These include benefits from your employer’s group plan, your personal savings, and possible government benefits such as social security disability insurance.

“If you’re making a six-figure income, you really shouldn’t be covered by a group long-term plan,” Crawford says. The coverage is cheap, but you’re not going to receive nearly enough of your pre-disability income to sustain your current lifestyle. Sixty percent is the standard rate of income replacement on most plans. Why not higher? According to Crawford, the insurers want to pay “the maximum amount needed for you to get by without removing your incentive to go back to work.”

The subject is unpleasant for many, which may explain why so many people think of injury when they hear the word “disability.” In fact, according to AHIP’s Guide to Individual Disability Income Insurance (www.cap.org/apps/docs/insurance_programs/AHIP_Guide_Individual_Disability.pdf), 89.5 percent of claims are caused not by injury, but by illness. The guide is a great source of information about the many types of policies out there and the enormous variety of choices within each and every one of those policies. It also contains a checklist of questions to ask a reputable, knowledgeable agent when you’re ready to face the realities of your disability insurance needs.

By: Ryan Patterson

About the Author:

The type of American health insurance you get will all depend on your specific situation and capabilities. Insurance for American families can differ with income bracket, employers, and many other types of issues. This type of insurance is not always just for Americans and Americans living abroad in the armed services. For those who are in the U.S. from other countries and have applied for the immigration process, American family insurance is available for them as well.

The Types Of American Family Health Care Plans

There are several types of plans available today. The most common and popular are HMOs and PPOs. These can either be purchased at a lower rate through one’s employer or privately for those whose employers do not offer benefits or the self-employed.

American family HMO insurence plans offer customers a set monthly fee for service through their general practitioner and all medical treatment that practitioner refers the customer for within the network set up by the insurance company. You will be able to go see your doctor for treatment and check-ups with no deductible and a small co-pay.

Some HMOs insurence plans offer an indemnity-type option known as a POS plan. In this type of HMO, a POS plan, members can refer themselves outside the plan and still get some coverage. If your personal doctor refers you to a doctor out side of the network you will be fully covered by the plan.

American family PPO insurance plans are for those who would like to pay a lower monthly fee and have more freedom in practitioner choices. Your general practitioner will be in the network provided by your insurance company, but referrals can be outside of your network when appropriate. Customers will also have to meet a deductible each year as well as a co-pay with each visit.

American Family Health Insurance For Families In Need

If you are in need of insurance for your family but are unemployed or at a low-income bracket, you will might qualify for American family insurance through the government. This type of insurance will ensure that you and your family will get the medical treatment you need when you need it at little to no cost to you if you qualify. Medicaid and Medicare are health insurance plans designed to help those in need as well as the elderly and disabled. To find out more about these American family insurance options contact your local federal government agent or Department of Human Services. They will be able to tell you if you qualify and what benefits you are entitled to.

By: Mike Singh

About the Author:

Our loved ones are precious, and so is their health. That’s why when it comes to family medical insurance, we want to be sure we get a good family health insurance quote so that we can choose the plan that’s right for our situation. That’s where a free family health insurance quote from R. Curtis Insurance can be a great help. By knowing your family’s personal situation, R. Curtis Insurance can give you a family health insurance quote and sort out which plan is right for you.

In preparing to review your family health insurance quote from R. Curtis Insurance, it helps to understand the three basic plans of most family medical insurance: Health Maintenance Organization, Preferred Provider Organization, or Point of Service.

Health Maintenance Organization- This form of family health insurance plan came into widespread use about 20 years ago as a way to hold down medical costs while providing a range of preventive health care services. A health maintenance organization, or HMO, works well for families that want to keep their out-of-pocket medical costs low and are willing to give up the option to select their own physicians to save money.

HMO participants must select a primary care physician, or PCP. This doctor is the physician that families see most of the time for regular check-ups, vaccinations, minor illnesses and injuries. The PCP also serves as the “gatekeeper” for more specialized medical care, since an HMO requires a patient to get a referral from their primary physician in order to see a specialist in the network.

The big advantage to families of an HMO is that it keeps your out-of-pocket costs down while offering a wider range of preventive medical care, such as well child check-ups, vaccinations, dental check-ups, vision screening and so on. There’s usually no deductible to fulfill in an HMO plan and the co-payments for office visits and medications are often much lower than in other plans.

There is a drawback to an HMO for families, however. With this type of family medical insurance, there’s little or no coverage for medical services obtained outside the HMO network. Should your child suffer an injury while you’re out of town, there will be some coverage for immediate emergency care, but any extensive medical therapy will have to wait until you’re able to see your primary care physician and get a referral.

Preferred Provider Organization- This kind of family medical insurance plan, known as a PPO, offers more flexibility in the choice of health care services. With a PPO, the insurance company has made agreements with a network of doctors and hospitals to provide medical services at discounted rates. Participants in a PPO pay a co-payment for each office visit and must fulfill a deductible before the insurance company starts paying for other medical services. As long as the doctor or clinic is within the PPO network, there’s usually no need for additional referrals. However, any out-of-PPO medical care will cost more out of pocket and the insurance company will probably pay less of the total cost.

Point of Service- This kind of family medical insurance plan, referred to as POS, combines some of the best features of HMOs and PPOs. Participants still must select a primary care physician from the insurer’s network, but this means that families establish a relationship with one physician who gets to know their particular health care circumstances well. POS plans also provide for more preventive care services, a big advantage for growing families. There’s often no deductible for primary medical care with a POS plan.

However, like a PPO, a POS plan pays a larger portion of medical costs only when families use physicians within the network. There’s a deductible required for out-of-network services, and the insurance company pays a smaller portion of out-of-network costs. For more families, this can result in a major financial outlay while waiting for the insurer to process a claim for reimbursement.

By: Vikram kuamr

About the Author:

R. Curtis Insurance understands that family medical insurance represents a complicated, major purchase. That’s why the agency gladly offers a free family health insurance quote to help find the medical insurance that works best for your family.

Health insurance is a vital part of your fiscal planning. Ma minor illness or injury may not affect your financial status to any great extent. But a major illness or accident might require payment of cosmic amounts in the form of medical bills that may seriously offset your family budget. Being adequately covered under a health insurance plan provides unsurpassed peace of mind.

A family may apply for a family health insurance policy individually, or a family member may obtain group insurance at the place of employment. Coverage of the entire family might b provided under the group plan. When the head of the family leaves or loses their job, they may be debarred from the employee group insurance policies. Under such circumstances affordable health insurance for the entire family becomes imperative. Many times, employers do not offer a benefits package that includes health insurance for the family of the employee. Moreover, a self-employed person may need to bear the full medical expenses of the entire family if they happen to be the only earning member of the family. Also, the premium that is to be paid when all the family members are covered under a single policy might be lesser than the total amount payable for individual health plans for each and every member of the family.

However, certain maters need to be looked into before settling upon any particular family health insurance plan.

In certain cases, a family might not want to change the physician they are currently consulting, because of their familiarity with the medical history of the family. In that case, the medical provider should be asked about the types of insurance policies they allow, or whether they are enlisted with any particular health insurance company. This will ensure attainment of the best services at the best rates.

Managed care health insurance plans are often quite reasonably priced, but might be limiting in the sense that the policy holders are restricted to acquiring medical help from those providers and hospitals that fall under their network. In that case, one needs to ascertain whether any doctor in their locality falls under that network. Otherwise, that particular policy will not turn out to be cost-effective at all. Hence, it is crucial to carry out comprehensive research before signing up for any health insurance plan.

Coverage under insurance plans varies from one policy to another. In case that your child needs braces or consultation of allergist, you need to ascertain whether your insurance policy covers all that. Also find out if a written referral from your primary medical practitioner would be required.

By: Arturo

About the Author:

It is very important for families to have health insurance. Aetna family health insurance can be a great buy for any family. It is important for children to have a regular doctor that the family can visit. It is also important that in case of emergency a child can get the proper care needed without it breaking the family’s bank. Also everyone usually needs medications at some point and children are not different. Aetna family health insurance can be a great way to save money for all these necessary services.

Children need to go to the doctors for regular check ups. It is important in their preventative care. There are many childhood illnesses that can be treated before the child gets terribly sick from them. Asthma is one such disease. Also children need shots to prevent things like measles and small pox. Aetna family health insurance can help to make these visits cost less. Although this is important, most of the time children need to go to the doctors because they get sick. Public schools are breeding grounds for many illnesses. Strep throat and chicken pox runs through most grade schools non-stop. Aetna family health insurance can help with these visits.

Everyone gets hurt and needs immediate care at some point. It is very common for this to happen to children. Children can be clumsy and have all sorts of accidents all the time. They also do not always use the best judgment and do things like climb too high on a tree or run too fast down a hill. Aetna family health insurance can help with the costs of these visits. There are other more unfortunate circumstances too that can lead children into the emergency room. In cases like car accidents, a whole family may end up going to the emergency room. This can be very expensive for so many people to all have been seriously hurt at the same time. Aetna family health insurance is then a very useful thing for people in those types of situations to have.

When people get sick they need medications to make them better. Children are no different and usually are sick more often then adults. Often they just need penicillin, but depending on the school there can be lots of medications that children need. For instance if lice break out in a class, then all of the children will need medicated shampoo to get rid of them. In smoggy places like Los Angeles, children often need inhalers or other things to help them breathe. Aetna family health insurance can help with the price of medications. There are other medical supplies that Aetna family health insurance can help with as well. Children often break limbs and need crutches or are diabetic and need insulin.

By: Ronnie Hamilton

About the Author:

When it comes to providing health insurance for your family, you want to give them the best medical insurance you can. The problem is, it can be really tough to understand the jargon that medical providers and the insurance industry use. With a little homework, though, you can understand how different family health insurance plans work and which one will be the best medical insurance for your family.

These days, most family health insurance comes in one of three basic plans: Preferred Provider Organization, Health Maintenance Organization, or Point of Service. Here’s how each of these family health insurance plans works:

In a Preferred Provider Organization, commonly known as a PPO, the insurance company offers you a network of doctors and hospitals with which it prefers to work. These health care providers have agreed with the insurance company to provide services to the plan’s members – that’s you and your family – at discounted rates. When you pay for family health insurance under this arrangement, you can choose to see any doctor or specialist within the network that you prefer, rather than being required to choose a “gatekeeper” provider known as a “primary care physician.”

People who choose to participate in this kind of system usually must pay a deductible before the insurance company starts paying for medical services. There may also be a co-payment or percentage payment of the total bill required. It really depends on the plan you select. Also, if you choose to see a doctor who is not a part of the insurance company’s network, you will have to pay a greater percentage of the cost of that doctor’s services than if you’d gone to an in-network physician.

In a Health Maintenance Organization, called an HMO, members must select a Primary Care Physician and must get a referral in order to see a specialist. Consumers receive coverage at lower costs then a PPO for giving up this flexibility. If you decide an HMO plan is the best medical insurance for your family, you will have to choose a primary care physician. This doctor will see to most of your health care. If you need to see a specialist, your primary care physician will have to refer you to one who is a part of the HMO network.

One advantage to an HMO is that this type of family health insurance provides for a broader range of preventive health care than other types of plans. This can make an HMO the best medical insurance for a growing family with youngsters who need vaccinations, dental care, vision check-ups, etc. Co-payments are usually smaller and there’s often no deductible before insurance will pay your medical costs. However, HMOs usually do not provide coverage for out-of-network services except in emergencies, and then the plans usually cover only minimal services for family health insurance.

In a Point of Service plan or POS, many of the features of PPO and HMO plans are combined. Like an HMO, you may be required to choose a primary care physician from the insurance company’s network of health care providers and you may be required to get a referral to see a specialist. POS plans are similar to PPO plans in that you are covered if you see a doctor who is not part of the insurance company’s network. Just like with a PPO however, seeking services from out of network physicians or hospitals will cost you more out of pocket because of higher deductibles and co-payments.

By: Vikram kuamr

About the Author:

If you are working to have your family covered by a health insurance plan, you may be looking at a number of options for how to best get everyone the coverage they need.

Generally, there are two ways to go – individual health insurance plans or family health insurance plans. An individual health insurance plan will do just what you would expect, insure just one individual, by name. A family health insurance plan on the other hand will cover all the members of your immediate family, usually two parents and all their children.

If you have a large family, what you need to have may be a no-brainer – have family insurance that will cover you, your spouse and all the kids. But what if there aren’t as many of you? Today’s families come in all sizes. Some couples have only one child. Other families have only one parent with a child or two. In these cases, a family plan may not be the best deal out there.

For the most part the price of a family plan is meant to cover two parents and two children. If your family is smaller than this, it is a good idea to compare the price of individual policies for the members of your family as well as the price for a family plan.

There are some important considerations to make before you decide what type of plan you want to go with other than what the premiums will be.

What are the deductibles? The premium is just one part of what you will pay for health insurance. You also need to know what the deductible will be once you need medical attention. If your deductibles are too high, you may always feel like you are paying a fortune in medical bills before the insurance ever kicks in.

Is your doctor included? If you are very fond of your particular doctor, you need to make sure that person is in the plan that you go with. Different insurance companies have different networks of doctors that they approve of. Make sure your doctor is included.

Are there preexisting conditions? If anyone in your family has preexisting health conditions, you could be in for trouble. Many insurance companies will not accept individual policies for those who have preexisting health conditions like diabetes or cancer. In this case you will have to look back to a family plan that must accept all the members of the family.

Do you have high-risk habits? Health insurance companies are keeping an eye on a lot of health conditions these days to see who is at risk and who is likely going to be less of an expense to them. Two of the things they look at are if the candidate is a smoker or overweight as both of these are linked to medical conditions down the road.

By: Stephen Sikes

About the Author:

Family Health Insurance rates are constantly on the rise in the US, but one thing is for certain, if you are healthy, your group policy is more expensive then if you had a Family Health Insurance plan. This is especially true in Nevada, Florida, Ohio, Connecticut, and Georgia.

Right now in the US it is very popular for employers to contribute money toward the employee’s premium but not toward the spouse or children’s premium. If you are a healthy family and you are in this situation it is important for you to speak with a health insurance agent as soon as possible.

A prime example of this is when my sister in Ohio, started a new job, her family health insurance offered through the employer was almost $800 a month. They contributed about $300 a month and she was left with paying $500 a month to insure her husband and two children.

We ran her a quote through Ohio Health Insurance Quote (who currently offers free health insurance quotes in Ohio, Florida, Nevada, Georgia and Connecticut) and she was able to get an Ohio Health Insurance policy for her family for $355 a month. Furthermore, she approached her employer and the employer agreed to still contribute $250 a month toward her insurance if she agreed to provide her own insurance. Now her family only contributes $105 a month and they have their own policy. This means if she decides to work for another company she can take her health insurance with her, or when she retires she can keep this plan and not worry about being insurable when she is 55 or 60 years old.

Also If you are a student and live in Nevada, Florida, Ohio, Connecticut, and Georgia. You may want to decline the health insurance being offered through your college or university and get an individual policy offered by UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Humana, or Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. An individual policy is much preferred because the health insurance is not associated with ones education. Should a student become ill and have to drop out of college, he or she does not have to worry about losing his or her medical insurance.

By: Bill James

About the Author:

One of the biggest challenges faced by the self-employed population is the procurement of health insurance. Getting health insurance is a costly affair although you can utilize one of the existent methods of getting around the costs.

The best ways to get a health insurance in an inexpensive manner is for one partner to continue working at his or her regular job while the other manages the affairs of their business. Premiums for family health insurance are quite reasonable if you are holding a job. It also depends on employers’ contributions and their ability to offer a group rate. Either way, it turns out to be less expensive than purchasing two health insurance policies.

If you have already purchased a good policy, retain it for sometime after you leave you regular job to become self-employed. According to the COBRA act of 1986, you are entitled to the usual group rates, devoid of the contribution of your previous employer, for one year and six months after leaving your job. However, this law won’t protect you if you are fired from a company or if you have worked for an company that hires less than twenty people.

If you are single parent as well as self-employed, you will be happy to know that you are not on your own. You can join a good organization for the self-employed. Such organizations combine the resources of their members to get good group rates. These rates are not be as good as a large company might be able to afford, but you can save quite a bit when compared to the premiums you will have to pay as a single parent who wants a policy to cover the entire family.

Several people would rather not have an insurance policy. But as a single parent or an expecting mother, you will be forced to visit the family physician often. In this case, you could also go in for a health savings account or a supplementary health insurance to help you cover the costs.

Some states make available public assistance to cover basic health care in case of children. As a self-employed individual, unfortunately, you might not be able to avail of this service. In any case, determine about the availablity of such a program in your state and find out if you can avail of it.

You have to carefully consider the costs involved if you want to start a family and become self-employed at the same time. During the initial phase of being self-employed, health insurance could be the largest expense you will have to tackle.

By: Abhishek Agarwal

About the Author:

Life is beautiful but it is very unpredictable. You may never know what you may have to face at the next turn. An intelligent person is one who knows the uncertainties in life. But a wise person is one who not only is aware of the difficult times that one may have to face but plans accordingly. A good family health insurance plan ensures that you are ready to face the life head on no matter what.

Family is a major responsibility in the life of an individual. Whether you are married and have kids or bachelor, who has to take care of his aging parents, an affordable health insurance plan works best for both. It ensures that in case of any emergency, you don’t to have run pillar to post to arrange for finances. It gives you the flexibility of free or partially paid medical care. A number of reputed hospitals have tie-ups with insurance companies that sell health insurance policies.

Selecting a health insurance plan is no joke. You need to analyse various things before you decide to choose one. The best thing to do is study about various health insurance plans available in the market. It should be your first pre-buying exercise. Comparing different insurance plans available in the market should be the next step. Now you should list out the reasons why you need a family health insurance plan. Is it your parents that you need to insure or is it for your spouse or kids. Now align all your goals of a family health insurance plan to the health insurance policies that you studied.

All this is not sufficient. You need to work out how much premium you can pay without compromising on your long term or short term goals. It is not necessary that high premium health insurance plan is the best. It may have some advantages over the others but it cannot be claimed as the best health insurance plan. The best health insurance plan is the one, which is aligned to your family health insurance goals. Also, one-size-fit-all philosophy does not work for all. Every individual has his or her own needs. So if X health insurance is suitable for John, it is not essential that it may suit Robert too.

We offer various types of family health insurance plans. You may choose from a bouquet of health insurance policies that is available. Our health insurance plans range from high premium insurance to low premium insurance plans. There are various affordable health insurance plans are also available. We are just a click away.

By: Kuldeep SEO

About the Author:
