What happens when you do a voluntary surrender on a boat?

I had motor issues with my boat and it came to the point where the marina that is housing the boat advised me to file a claim. My insurance company came by and the motor had to be dismantled. The insurance company paid for that but they are denying my claim because the risers are worn and torn. So now I have a boat with no motor sitting at a marina and I still have 2 years to pay off on it. I called the finance company and they asked me if I wanted to “volutary surrender the boat” – What does this mean? I can’t afford a new motor and to pay off the finance on the boat. Please help Thank you!

Thanks…I can not find the answers to these questions anywhere and I thought that seeing how everyone here is so ready to just on the boat with this Public Option you would have the answers….

We found a jon boat on Craig’s List for about $1500. We’re of course going to try to get them down on the price, but I have a feeling that there may be additional expenses (insurance?) that we aren’t considering. The boat comes with the following:

5 hp Briggs & Stratton OB Motor, (used less than 5 hours) w/1 hp Sears trolling motor & new battery, Eagle fish finder, swivel seats, anchor & spare tire. Includes 1995 Long Trailer.

The only problem with the boat is that it’s older so the plywood will need to be replaced and the swivel seats (fine for now) will probably also need to go at some point.

What other expenses do we need to consider?

She has not done anything about any of the improvements promised. My cousin (a lawyer) came over to visit one day and found several other things she needs to fix. We’ve had a fine relationship with the landlord in the last year and we don’t want to rock the boat, but we think it’s wrong for her to have forgotten for a year to fix these things. A few months ago, she called us to say that someone came to inspect the outside of the house (an insurance person? a city person? i don’t know) and that they ordered her to put a safety railing on the outside steps and that if someone was looming around measuring, etc, not to freak out. We’ve seen nothing happen from this either.
I want someone to come inspect the home and tell her what she is ordered to fix. Who would I contact?
