I am looking into buying a fifteen foot MFG boat (1962) With a johnson 55hp and a trailer. My first question is will my 1995 ford ranger haul this? My second question is this hp big enough to tube and water ski with kids around age 10-15 or adults all weighing under 150lbs each? And my final question is how much would you expect this to be to register in Maine? (First the boat then the trailer). Also do i need any insurance if i’m using it on a very small lake? if so how much would this cost????

   I had a 16ft zodiac with a 40hp and could pull someone out of the water on a surfboard but was really difficult. The more gear and people you have in the boat the harder it will be. As far as towing I had a 1987 4cly toyota pick up with a six pack camper and had no problem towing multiple boats up large grades and steep boat ramps. Sometimes if I had the camper off I would have to throw in a few sandbags or have people sit in the bed to make it out of steep slippery boat launches without spinning wheels. Registration should be cheap considering the year. In CA I only had to register the trailer once due to its age, 1957. I would imagine your case to be similar. I never insured my boat but had vessel assist since I was in the ocean quite a bit, never did have to use it even with a 1955 Johnson outboard.
